As it happens, I also have a personal connection to Moon River. It is the song I connect to my mom, who died many years ago. I remember sitting with her at the ocean beach in the evening on a driftwood log, I was maybe 8. The moon was hovering over the water, and its long skinny reflection was prominent, and she explained to me that that reflection was the "moon river" in the song. Every time I see that long reflection of the moon going off to the horizon I'm reminded of her and of the song.
And I quickly skip it every time it comes up, still can't really handle it. So I don't think I can venture a listen to your rendition, for the same reason. She only died in 1988 after all. Too soon :-).
In my someday Substack I plan to write an article about some of the unsung genius moments Mancini penned. He could put out dreck like the best of them, but when he was on, man oh man.
