I’m not a fan of Bieber, but if you hadn’t talked about it, I would have not known and would have equally told you your version is very pretty. Now, from a pianist perspective, if you want to enrich your playing a little bit, try to add some chord notes on the right hand below the melody. You don’t have to do it from the beginning, just do it to arrange it a little and make it more interesting.

A lovely and sensitive rendition, Mr. Centrist. That is to say, a lovely and sensitive rendition of a total crap song. I could write an entire essay on why that is not in any way a good composition. The numbers absolutely do lie. They lie all the time. There’s a big difference between somebody making a lot of money and somebody writing something worthwhile.

I’m assuming you are very familiar with the original, which I’m not, so that might make a big difference in our perceptions of it. It may not be possible, but if you could listen to this composition fresh as your solo piano version and magically remove your knowledge of the original, you might see what I mean. It most certainly IS another mass produced factory pop song. I don't know Sheeran at all, but if indeed he's so brilliant, then he wrote this one in his sleep. The tune rambles about on mostly the same three pitches with no sense of shape or direction or, really, coherence. It noodles about on a cliché and repetitive chord progression, and there’s nothing in it to draw my attention or provide any emotional interest.

I regret writing this comment because you went to the trouble of covering it which means it is meaningful to you and I don’t want to crap on that. And like I said, your rendition of it is nice. But be careful when you state your opinions as fact so forcefully, because your readers may vehemently disagree with you!

I don't know, maybe it's because I've been writing reviews of amateur songs all morning and I'm tired of coming up with nice things to say about songs I don't like. After a few hours of that, hearing this one, touted up front as some sort of genius composition, it makes my heart sink.

I'm sorry I wrote this comment, as you're one of my favorite 'stackers, and I don't want to make you mad. It's just that.... this song.... I just can't. Nice playing though, as I said, and good on you for putting it out there.

To each their own, good sir. No problem at all. I welcome all comments. And I didn't intend to put forward anything statement as axiomatic... just my opinion. Thank you as always my friend
