Great list! I’ve seen most of the movies here, but The Descent always manages to creep me out. Maybe it’s because I hate the idea of being stuck in caves and dark, closed spaces.
Solid list. Surprised not to see Hereditary on here though. I remember watching The Descent on a random channel as kid and have been traumatized since — couldn't even get myself to watch it as an adult without looking away every few minutes, truly the stuff of nightmares.
You don't like the movies from the Aliens franchise after Alien and Aliens. While both Aliens 3 and Aliens 4 have weaknesses, I respect Alien 3 for exploring the question of "could you battle Aliens without weapons?" In Alien 3, the Aliens attack Ripley and prisoners in a jail facility where there's nothing to fight with, except using ruses and traps. Alien 4 was directed by a French dude (Jean-Pierre Jeunet), so it has a French sci-fi flavor.
I think Alien 3 is a better film than a lot of people give it credit for but ultimately I only revisit the first two. I enjoyed Romulus enough for the first hour until it lost me completely…
I like the Scream franchise, even though the premise (victims deconstructing horror movies while they're in one) begins to wear thin over time.
The TV show, American Horror Story, has some great moments. Each season focuses on a different theme, so to any individual viewer, some will be better than others. All of them seem to take place in the same universe, with similar rules (ghosts are trapped where they died, except on Halloween, but they can become physical pretty much whenever they want). This impression is confirmed when witches travel through time, connecting many of the disparate threads.
I'm always down for a classic slasher or paranormal movie, but I love well done psychological horror. Get Out and Hannibal (the TV show) are my all-time favorites.

Couldn't agree more. The idea of being stuck in a cave and running out of light scares me more than anything else in any of these movies.
Train to Busan is another level. No need to know the language.
I saw Orphan in theaters when I was 8. I was petrified.
Still creeps me out when I think about the twist ending.

I must admit, I have only watched the first half of Hereditary. I never got around to finishing it. I should though.

Thanks. I’ve always meant to check AHS out. Might have to start watching it now
I thought Stir of Echoes was oddly good.
The exorcist is probably my favorite.
Oh yeah. Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon and his crazy indoor shovelling. Forgot about that movie. Good flick. The Exorcist rocks...
